Product-line overview

No water's getting in this motor. Baldor's food-safe washdown motors come in 56-286TC frames and are rated for IP69, limiting dust, high pressure jets, and steam from entering the motor. This line comes in 1/2 horsepower up to 30 horsepower. These are specially made for food processing, high pressure washdown applications, caustic environments, pumps, and wastewater applications.

The motor comes in three phase and is mounted with a c-face flange, but also includes foot mounting for hard mounting if a gear reducer is required.

Individually welded feet, a welded conduit box, and a laser-etched nameplate allow you to easily clean the motor and limit bacteria from growing on the surface. There are no crevices for food or contaminants to collect. With a 3 year warranty, you'll feel confident trusting this motor in your washdown application. This line is also NEMA premium efficient, giving you cost savings over the life of the motor.

All Baldor washdown motors come equipped with double-sealed motor bearings, extending the life of your motor. To ensure a water-tight seal, neoprene rubber gaskets are used in these motors and shaft seals are included at both ends. The motors are sealed from frame to endplate joints to eliminate water entry. Removable drain plugs allow for drainage.

Baldor motors are stocked in Edmonton, AB; Burlington, ON; and Saint-Hubert, QC. Most motors arrive within 1-5 business days when shipping to postal codes within Canada. Baldor motors are manufactured in Arkansas, USA.

What is a Washdown Duty Motor?

Washdown motors are specially designed to limit water and cleaning chemicals from entering the motor. Their construction limits corrosion and there are fewer places for debris to build up on the body of the motor.

The stainless-steel body essentially makes these waterproof electric motors, though submerging them is not recommended. You’ll find options where the nameplate is stamped onto the body of the motor, which removes the chance for bacteria buildup under a riveted nameplate.

Washdown motors are certified with an IP rating starting with a 6, which means the motor is completely dust tight. The second digit will indicate its level of protection against water:

  • IP65: protection against low-pressure water jets
  • IP66: protection against high-pressure water jets
  • IP67: protection against 30 minutes of immersion in water
  • IP68: protection against continuous immersion in water
  • IP69: protection against high temperature, high pressure water jets

eMotors Direct’s stock of washdown duty electric motors are designed for use in applications where the motor is expected to be exposed to pressure from cleaning jets and water (and possibly cleaning chemicals). These motors are most often used in the food processing industry where sanitation is key but can be used anywhere you want to avoid the ingress of water. These motors are also commonly used in packaging, pharmaceutical manufacturing, wastewater treatment, marine applications, and car washes.

About Baldor

Baldor is particularly well known for the Super-E motor, which is a premium efficient (IE3) motor. This flagship product offers increased efficiency and cost savings for manufacturing plants, compared to high efficiency (IE2) motors.

Baldor industrial motors perform in rugged applications with safety and durability in mind. Their popular products include AC motors, DC motors, farm duty motors, crusher duty motors, and explosion proof motors.

Formerly known as Baldor Electric Company, now the US Motor Business Unit of ABB, Baldor manufactures electrical motors under the Baldor-Reliance brand. Having been a member of the ABB group since 2011, Baldor Electric Company unified with ABB in March of 2018. After the rebrand, they are now known as ABB Motor and Mechanical (Canada) Inc, although new motor nameplates still indicate 'Baldor Reliance' in Canada.

Baldor Electric Motors work out of headquarters based in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Baldor Canada’s locations throughout the country provide applications, technical support, and distribution centres.
