AEGIS

AEGIS® Shaft Grounding Ring technology is the only technology that combines both contact and non-contact nanogap technology to reliably protect bearings from electrical discharges that cause pitting, frosting, and fluting damage.

AEGIS Shaft Grounding Rings are manufactured in Maine, USA by Electro Static Technology (EST), an ITW Company. EST has been around since the early 80s, initially working in the printer industry with a focus on antistatic technologies. After being acquired by Illinois Tool Works (ITW) in 1999, EST continued to work in electrostatics and eventually introduced the AEGIS Shaft Grounding Rings in 2005.

Stray electric charges on rotating components have been causing bearing damage in electric motors for too long, particularly since the introduction of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). EST has been a leader in technological advances to mitigate this damage (pitting, frosting, and fluting). Proprietary technology from ITW uses conductive microfibers inside the AEGIS Grounding Rings to divert the motor’s shaft current to ground, decreasing damage caused by harmful voltages and increasing motor life.
