Product-line overview

The Baldor Severe Duty Motors in the Dirty Duty Plus series offers 230/460 voltage and is intended for use in applications with high levels of contamination. These motors are designed with flexibility in mind, featuring footed, c-face (footed), and c-face (footless) configurations to cater to your specific requirements. The horsepower range spans from 1/2 to 10 Hp, ensuring that a wide spectrum of power needs is effectively addressed.

The Baldor Dirty Duty Plus Motors are a testament to robust and reliable motor engineering. Featuring cast iron endplates and a conduit box, these motors are built for enduring even the harshest industrial environments. Their durability is further guaranteed by a 300 series stainless steel shaft extension, ensuring longevity and corrosion resistance. The motors' resilience extends to their exterior, with a two-part epoxy paint system that has successfully passed a rigorous 2,000+ hours salt fog test per ASTM B 117 standards. Additionally, the Dirty Duty Plus motors are equipped with permanently lubricated, double-sealed ball bearings for extended service life. These motors are encased in an IP56 enclosure, incorporating labyrinth shaft seals, a gasketed conduit box, and cover, effectively safeguarding them from the elements. With an Inverter Duty nameplate and compliance with IEEE 45 standards, they are not only reliable but also adaptable to modern industrial requirements, making the Baldor Dirty Duty Plus Motors the preferred choice for demanding applications.

These rugged motors find their calling in the chemical, oil & gas industries, where harsh and corrosive conditions are the norm, thanks to their cast iron endplates and stainless steel shaft extension. In the challenging environments of pulp & paper and forest product operations, where durability and longevity are essential, these motors perform. Additionally, their robust construction and protective features make them ideal for coastal marine applications, with resistance to the corrosive effects of saltwater and moisture. Whether faced with the harshest of chemicals, the ruggedness of forestry operations, or the corrosive coastal marine settings, the Dirty Duty Plus Motors by Baldor stand as a reliable and steadfast choice for industrial professionals seeking dependable motor solutions.

Baldor motors are stocked in Edmonton, AB; Burlington, ON; and Saint-Hubert, QC. Most motors arrive within 1-5 business days when shipping to postal codes within Canada. Baldor motors are manufactured in Arkansas, USA.

What Does Severe Duty Mean?

Sometimes referred to as ‘hostile duty motors’, severe duty motors are an unofficial class of rugged, industrial motors. The term may refer to any TEFC motor, but more commonly refers to IEEE 841 motors. They typically come with a cast iron construction to withstand harsh applications.

Severe duty motors are more likely to protect the motor from airborne contamination or mechanical stress. For added protection and longevity, these often come with sealed bearings, which limits potential overload situations. Bearing failure is the most common cause of motor failure.

These motors are constructed with especially durable materials. The fan cover will typically be cast iron, whereas some general-purpose motors will offer a plastic fan cover. The junction box will typically be cast iron as well, instead of aluminum or steel.

What is an IEEE 841 Motor Rated For?

IEEE 841 is the Cadillac of motors, offering superior construction and capability. These were first introduced in 1986 for use in petroleum and chemical industries. They’re meant for severe duty applications and offer an extended lifespan; despite the added stress and contamination they encounter.

Features include:

  • Insulation: They’re designed with a minimum of class F insulation. This means the insulation can withstand temperatures of 130° C.
  • Enclosure: These severe duty motors come Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled with Inpro seals in each end and are rated Class 1, Division 2
  • Oversized greaseable bearings
  • Epoxy paint with a stainless nameplate
  • Tropicalized winding to prevent fungus
  • Only come in three-phase 460V or 575V with 3-leads
  • Rotor is balanced to a higher tolerance to meet 0.08 in/s of vibration
  • Motors comes with a routine test report
  • Warranty: Because of their rugged design, these motors come with a standard 5-year warranty.

Where to Buy IEEE 841 Severe Duty Motors in Canada

eMotors Direct’s stock of severe duty electric motors meet and exceed the IEEE 841 standard set out in 2009. This standard was created by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to improve the efficiency, reliability, and performance of electric motors used in the petroleum and chemical industries. IEEE 841 motors have now been adopted as a standard in additional industries, like oil & gas, pulp & paper, wastewater treatment, and mining, due to their inverter duty and constant speed abilities. You’ll find these electric motors are most often applied to compressors, pumps, fans, conveyors, and gear reducers. Rated as NEMA Premium Efficient, these severe duty motors have additional protections that help to reduce downtime and overall cost of ownership.

Our IEEE 841 motor category covers three-phase, single speed electric motors. Select your motor from horsepower options of fractional to 500 HP and a variety of voltage input and RPM output ratings. Choose a motor with either a totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) or totally enclosed non-ventilated (TENV) enclosure and various mounting options. About Baldor

Baldor is particularly well known for the Super-E motor, which is a premium efficient (IE3) motor. This flagship product offers increased efficiency and cost savings for manufacturing plants, compared to high efficiency (IE2) motors.

Baldor industrial motors perform in rugged applications with safety and durability in mind. Their popular products include AC motors, DC motors, farm duty motors, crusher duty motors, and explosion proof motors.

Formerly known as Baldor Electric Company, now the US Motor Business Unit of ABB, Baldor manufactures electrical motors under the Baldor-Reliance brand. Having been a member of the ABB group since 2011, Baldor Electric Company unified with ABB in March of 2018. After the rebrand, they are now known as ABB Motor and Mechanical (Canada) Inc, although new motor nameplates still indicate 'Baldor Reliance' in Canada.

Baldor Electric Motors work out of headquarters based in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Baldor Canada’s locations throughout the country provide applications, technical support, and distribution centres.
